Procrastination and Crutches Go Together!
Lately my schedule has been packed! I’ve been making more time for business meetings and have needed to reassess all my other priorities such as exercising, social gatherings and time with my boyfriend – all of which are equally if not more important to me.

What’s MOST Important?
My goal is almost always to conserve energy so that I can put it toward the activities and people that are MOST important to me.
I am constantly asking myself, “what are the most important activities for me to spend my time doing? and, how can I best use my energy so that I can do these activities?” As I’m keenly aware that I have a finite amount of time and energy.
Making time to do it ALL is tough and sometimes impossible…. So I have to determine what I am willing to let go of if need be OR where I can combine activities to achieve my desired outcome.
Exhaustion Leads to “Life Crutches”
What happens if I don’t conserve energy and create ease for myself? I wind up exhausted and / or seeking ‘something’ to give me more pep or a boost to ‘get through’ whatever it is I’m doing.
I call this something a crutch. It’s something I think will help me…in the past this was another snack, another cup of something caffeinated or even another glass of wine.
There are many life crutches available to us at any given time that you may or may not recognize as a one until you attempt to give it up. At least that was the case for me.
Diversion from Moving My Life Forward
For example, when I stopped snacking all day long, I recognized that the activities I was engaging in were less than satisfying. And they were exhausting me by the end of the day!
My “snacking” crutch provided a diversion from having to face the fact that…I just didn’t want to deal with the reality of the situation. If I did it would mean I’d have to ‘do’ something about it.
When I stopped reaching for another glass of wine, I was able to see that some of the people I was choosing to spend my time with weren’t really deep connections but rather surface acquaintances. And that’s not how or who I really wanted to spend my valuable time. But another glass of wine kept me from having to take action that would move my life forward.
There are plenty of ways to procrastinate in taking action or moving forward in my life…and using crutches is one of them.
I invite you to look at your crutch/es of choice. What are they and how do they serve you? We’ll continue this conversation in next month’s edition…stay tuned!
Until then, here’s to conserving your energy for the people and activites that are MOST important to you!
Love,
Nikki
